Projects

CCRC is concerned about the impact that this type of industry has on communities throughout the regions, and has four program areas: Community Outreach, Landowner Outreach, ForestWatch, and the Hemphill and Robbins Demonstration Model Forest.

More than 2000 people have attended these events to learn more about sustainable forestry. Now, with help from CCRC, these families are developing a demonstration forest to show how selective cutting, preservation of diversity, management of individual "crop" trees, and careful harvest practices will provide steady, long-term income, preserve wildlife habitat, and protect water quality.

Community Outreach supports communities which are affected by the impacts of chip mills in their neighborhoods. Community Outreach also cultivates a broad base of support to ensure better quality of life and affects state policy that will protect citizens and forestlands.

Landowner Outreach promotes educational meetings and field-based demonstrations on sustainable forestry for private landowners, foresters, loggers, the media, and concerned citizens.

ForestWatch is a monitoring program, which documents logging activities by taking pictures and video; filing site evaluation forms and building the case for protective forestry legislation.

The Hemphill and Robbins Demonstration Forest began in 1999 when CCRC sponsored the First Annual Horselogging Day.
