We need people who have leadership qualities and the time to be leaders. Moreover, we need to develop leaders from within our ranks.
Why Do We Need Leaders?

- Ability to motivate others.
- Ability to understand the issues.
- Ability to understand the political process.
- Ability to see a problem and develop a strategy to solve it.
- Ability to understand the workings of your organization and where it fits in the big picture.
- To have a vision of where we should be going and what needs to be done to carry out this vision.
- To have confidence.
- To have respect.
- To be a good listener.
- To have sense of humor.

Developing Leadership
- The potential to recognize leadership qualities in others.
- Caring about what concerns us.
- To see how much responsibility people can handle and create chances for this to happen.
- Pump people up-challenge and affect people to stay committed and engaged.
- Start small and easy. As a person shows more initiative "pile it on." Some situations do not allow us the luxury of easing into a cause.
- Know when to hold someone's hand and when to let go.
- Build a sense of community. Everyone likes to belong somewhere.
- Focusing on the goals-always develop people who have skills and experience. But remember the goal is to cultivate and develop others. It's called building leadership to form coalitions from the bottom up.
