Phone Call
A phone call may be the first personal contact you have with a potential activist. Remember that activists will lose interest if you wait too long to call after the initial meeting.
Purpose of a Phone Call
- Inform people about the organization.
- Remind people about an upcoming event.
- Assess quality of recruits.
- Make your presence known in the community.
- Delegate responsibility to complete a project or campaign.
- Motivate people toward social activism.
Making Phone Calls
- Know what you want to get out of the call. Have a list of tasks that need to get done or a schedule to tie people into as soon as possible.
- Call the day after the initial encounter.
- Talk to the person whose name you have.
- When you get to the right person, introduce yourself and your organization. Be sure to tell the person how you got his/her name. Try to sense if it is a good time to talk.
- Get a commitment.
- Reiterate key points.
- Keep records of the contacts you make. Enter the relevant information such as name, date, address, and phone on a note card or tracking form.
- Be courteous.
