Achievements
- July 1996-CCRC organized a rally in Union Mills, North Carolina-attended by 800 people
- October 1996-Due to CCRC's efforts, Governor Hunt commissioned the North Carolina Wood Chip Mills Study
- October 1997-CCRC participated in the first Chip Mill Public Hearing in Asheville, North Carolina
- April 1998-CCRC hosted two Landowner Outreach Meetings in Spindale, North Carolina
- November 1999-CCRC hosted the First Annual Horselogging and Sawmilling Fun and Field Day attended by 400 people in Union Mills, North Carolina
- March 2000-CCRC, PA, and MO took the community message to Bennettsville, South Carolina where Willamette Industries had applied for an air quality permit to construct a particle board facility
- October 2000-CCRC hosted the Second Annual Horselogging and Sawmilling Fun and Field Day attended by 540 people in Union Mills, North Carolina
- May 2001-CCRC members appeared on WBTV-3's I-Team documentary (Charlotte, North Carolina) on Southeastern Forests
- October 2001-CCRC hosted the Third Annual Horselogging and Sawmilling Fun and Field Day attended by 600 people on the Hemphill/Robbins farm in Union Mills, North Carolina
- December 2001-CCRC participated in securing the passage of a Land Use plan in Rutherford County
- January 2002-CCRC received the Forest Conservationist of the Year Award from the NC and National Wildlife Federations
- October 2002-CCRC hosted the Second Annual ForestWatch Conference attended by 83 people representing seven states, and the Fourth Annual Horselogging and Sawmilling Fun and Field Day attended by 600 people on the Hemphill/Robbins farm in Union Mills, North Carolina
- December 2002-Since May 2000, CCRC has evaluated 184 clearcut sites through the ForestWatch program
- January 2003-CCRC received a Certificate of Community Service Award at the 2003 Martin Luther King Annual Prayer Breakfast held at the New Bethel AME Zion Church in Forest City, North Carolina
- February 2003-Featured Rodney Robbins, CCRC member, in the North Carolina Farm
Bureau magazine article entitled "From North Carolina Forests to Fine
Furniture" by Chris Street.
- August 2003-Featured in The Daily Courier and the article was entitled "Chip Mill
Helped Launch Current Zoning Debate."
- October 2003-Hosted the Fifth Annual Logging Demonstration Day at the Hemphill &
Robbins' Family Farm and awarded the First Annual "Good Logger Award" to
Chester Conner of L&M Logging from Union Mills, NC.
- November 2003-Hosted two Workshops featuring Thomas Linzey, Esquire and Stacey
Schmader from the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund in
Chambersburg, PA to discuss the formation of the Foothills Cooperative
WoodNet and Corporations, Local Ordinances and High Impact Industries, and
Citizen Processes and Powers.
- December 2003-Participated in the formation of the Rutherford County Citizens
Advisory Committee along with the Chase & Flat Rock Citizens Group and Free
Rutherford to focus on rural protective community measures.
- March 2004-CCRC participated on a panel discussion, Environmental Concerns in Rutherford County, for Leadership Rutherford's Environmental & Agriculture Program.
- April 2004-Chase/Flat Rock Citizens' Group, CCRC, and Free Rutherford conducted the first in a series of Common Sense Community Meetings at the Golden Valley Club House to address the location of high impact industries and citizen process and involvement in local government.
- May 2004-CCRC participated in the NCPIRG Carolina Rivers Project to request the reclassification of the North Fork of the First Broad River in Rutherford County to a high quality waters standard.
