CCRC Policy regarding Forest Watch Referrals:
In some states, prior notification of timber harvesting is used to protect water quality.
North Carolina has no state requirements for prior notification of timber harvesting so the CCRC Forest Watch Program was created to provide the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources with information
about logging sites that might not otherwise come to the attention of the Division's Water Quality specialists.
Through the Forest Watch Program, citizens and trained CCRC Forest Watch volunteers notify the CCRC office of all observed logging sites. These referrals are confidential. Using topographic maps and/or on-site visits with the landowner, CCRC screens these referrals to determine if a particular logging site has the potential to cause water quality problems. If the observed site has such potential, CCRC submits a site observation form to the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources for official evaluation.
Adopted by the Concerned Citizens of Rutherford County's Board of Directors, October 3, 2002.
